iManager hangs when moving objects.

Dear knowledgeable forum,

We are currently having a quite severe problem where our iManager hangs
very often when we are moving objects between organisational units.
We have tried both Firefox and Internet Explorer and get the exact same
result.

What happens and when:

When moving an object to another Organisational Unit nothing happens and
iManager stops responding. When you refresh the page, it can no longer
load but if you close all tabs and instances of the browser and open
iManager again you can login and maybe move one more object before it
happens again.

We thought it could be a local java issue but we are seeing this on all
computers we've tried and when it hangs, on the server it shows that the
java process is on 200%+ CPU.

Restarting tomcat helps with the CPU load but only last a few minutes.

The what to the question "What has changed since it worked?" is that
we've increased the number of useraccounts by over 100%.
There is now a OU with over 1000 accounts waiting to be sorted but with
iManager hanging all the time it's rough work.

Server:
6Gb RAM
4 vCPU
Java version 1.6.0
SLES
Product Version: eDirectory for Linux x86_64 v8.8 SP8 [DS]
Binary Version: 20807.11

Any ideas?

Re: iManager hangs when moving objects.

We tried working on another replica with the same version and
experiencing the same issue. Seems like a bug but only appeared after
we've "flooded" the servers with useraccounts.

Re: iManager hangs when moving objects.

You may find better answers in the iManager forum, rather than the
eDirectory forum.

Otherwise the next obvious question is whether or not you can patch, or at
least try an updated version of iManager Workstation so that you rule out
issues with old plugins, older Java, etc.

Cheers, I've sent the question to iManager section so we'll see what they have to say!

I checked for updates here:
https://download.novell.com/index.jsp?product_id=&search=Search&families=2611&version=&date_range=&keywords=&sort_by=&results_per_page=&x=37&y=9

No idea what out of these 35 things to get though.

I rarely look that way
in iManager, click on the Configure icon from the top row (person at a desk)
If you are logged in with the account that installed the instance of iManager, you should have the ability to install the new
and/or updated snap-ins there. As for which you need, just compare to what you already have installed.

What happens if you just wait? I suspect iManager is waiting for
eDirectory to move the object, which isn't a quick process.

Is the object actually moving when you're done with it? Check to see if
it did, and if you have any stuck obits laying around that could be
interfering with a successful completion.

Re: iManager hangs when moving objects.

Waiting does nothing unfortunately. We let it be for over an hour but it keeps the process at 200%.

You work around it by closing browser completely so it's a combination. The client browser hangs and seem to keep the java process locked at high CPU.

Moving objects have never been something that takes time before, before we flooded the server with accounts it's been an instant action that needed no wait.

This is either a bug in iManager (possible) or a problem in your
underlying eDirectory. Use iMonitor and run the obits report to see if
there's anything funny going on.

The number of objects you have is not relevant, at least not to
eDirectory. I move objects in trees much larger and more dispersed than
you have, and it works fine.
