maximum number of objects in an ou

Many years ago, at brainshare, an edirectory guru explained that there were a limit for the number of objects in an ou. Not a physical limit, but a practical one, like how fast can we browse and seach and performance such.

Is there such a practical limit? We have an OU with somehere above 250000 users, is that a problem? Should we split the placement into sub ous?

We are on edir

Re: maximum number of objects in an ou

I've had over a million objects in an OU.

The issue is not searching but browsing with tools such as iManager or LDAP browsers.

They can't display all objects and you can't find anything by looking at them.

You need to do LDAP searches and they work just fine.
