Driver "update"

Before doing that in production, in my test environment I notice the
following :

0) check the printer properties and a driver is well associated
1) on the broker I delete a driver
2) check printer properties and said "no driver associated error", I DO
NOT apply
3) on the broker I install a new driver (with the same name)
4) check the printer properties and a driver IS WELL associated

is it logical or am I just lucky ?

Why not just import the new one and say yes when it asks if you want to
overwrite?
