Gestetner CS206d and LPR

I cannot get our printer to work through iPrint.
I can telnet it on port 515 so it should use LPR ok.
I have tried PORT1, lpt1, print as LPR Printer names but none work.
I have tried the Port 9100 option and nothing seems to work.
I cannot find anything on Gestetner for LPR. I think that they are a
subsiderary of Ricoh but none of those LPR names worked either.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Dan

What are the symptoms of it not working? Does the NDPS Manager show an
error status for the printer or do the jobs disappear or come out garbled?

Re: Gestetner CS206d and LPR

The jobs do not get to the printer. Manager just says printing but nothing
ever comes through.
Ricoh responded saying that their driver does not work with iPrint and that
I need to use the Ricoh NDPS Gateway by NWAdmin. I am not sure how to do
this but I guess I will have to figure it out.
Any comments on how to set up the printer using this method?

Thanks,
Dan

Do the jobs leave the Manager? E.g. do they disappear after a while or do
they just get stuck and the Manager never finishes sending them
(independently of whetehr they actually print or not)?

That's pure nonsense. We have plenty of Ricoh pritners of all kinds
(including colour versions) and they work just fine with the Novell
gateway. They even don't care what LPR name you use.

Don't do it. The Ricoh gateway is not that great and the Novell gateway is
much better.

Overall, if the jobs leave the NDPS Manager without any error message, but
nothing prints on the pritner, then the communication between the server
and the printer most likely is OK, but you might have a propblem with the
drivers on the workstations. E.g. the workstation may be sending garbage
to the printer and the printer just drops it.
What kind of drivers are you using? We generally get best results with the
RPCS drivers.
