ISSUE OFF INSTALLING RICOH PRINTER DRIVERS FOR MAC

Hi there,

For about 1 month now we are using iPrint for our notebooks that are not in our domain network. We have about 35 printers and mulitfunctionals, and we first have configured our windows drivers because the most off our notebooks are Windows 8.1 notebooks.
We only use 2 drivers for them all. The universal HP printer driver and the Universal Ricoh printer driver and all works perfect.
Now I'm trying to get the macbooks to print. This is a problem. From the mac itself it ins't possible to upload a driver or get the printer driver from te system at all. Safari isn't supported.
I can download a Ricoh driver from a C2051 multifunctional and for the mac but Iprint can't handle that. iPrint only can use PPD files. I can find those files on the mac and when I upload those to iPrint it seems to work perfect, but the when printing the printer gives all ******** instead off a document for example.

What is the best way to upload those drivers?

Thanks,

Marcel

Re: ISSUE OFF INSTALLING RICOH PRINTER DRIVERS FOR MAC

Mysterious,

My question was wrong, Sorry. To upload the PPD driver from MAC isn't a problem. I can upload them but the Ricoh multifunctional only print ******** with them or I get a error on the mac when installing the printer. I understand that PPD files for the Mac are Postscript files. I have contacted Ricoh and they told me that our multifunctional ons support PCL and no postscript.
So the question is hoe can I upload the correct driver files for Ricoh for the mac?
Or is it impossible to use the Ricoh Multifunctionals on iPrint in our case?

thanks,

Marcel

PPD is just a text file with some info inside about printer
capabilites.. If you printer only supports PCL then ask Ricoh for the
PCL ppd driver. PCL driver is also a PPD file as the real work is done
by the cup filter with the PPD info. i.e:

According to the *cupsFilter entry in a PPD file, for example the entry
in a Foomatic PPD file:

*cupsFilter: "application/vnd.cups-postscript 0 foomatic-rip" data with
the MIME type application/vnd.cups-postscript is converted to
printer-specific data (e.g., PCL data for a PCL printer) by way of the
Foomatic filter /usr/lib/cups/filter/foomatic-rip.
