KB884897 & KB893225 with iPrint 4.34 client

The readme file for the download of the iPrint 4.34 client states that the two MS hotfixes, KB884897 and KB893225 should be installed.

We have not seen the problems mentioned in KB893225 with long periods of time before the popup window appears.

Previous versions did not have these kb articles listed in the requirements section. Is this required with the new versions starting with the NW65SP7 code? (iPrint 4.07)

Would someone please give me some history on the issue? We are trying to make a decision on whether or not they need to be deployed in advance of pushing out the new iPrint client.

Thanks in advance.

Um, 4.07 is way before SP7. And these requirements have existed for a
long time.

Yes, the two Microsoft hotfixes need to be deployed.

No, iPrint 4.07 is the version included with SP7. You are probably
confusing this with the iPritn client version which is now at 4.34 as the
title of this post mentions.

The 2 MS hotfixes were always "must have" patches for iPrint. This history
of recommending these 2 patches goes back quite some time as the following
2 historic TIDs show (these are not the current versions of these TIDs. I
just wanted to show that the issue goes back years ago):

http://support.novell.com/cgi-bin/search/searchtid.cgi?/10070383.htm
http://support.novell.com/cgi-bin/search/searchtid.cgi?/10095247.htm

Unfortunately, many people missed these TIDs and therefore did not apply
the hotfixes, especially since Microsoft avoids making it too easy to get
these patches as the patches fix problems mostly experianced by
Microsoft's competition and not by themselves

Novell's wording and requiring these patches became stronger in the
following TID:

http://www.novell.com/support/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=3786843&sliceId=SAL_Public

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
Novell recommends that every Windows 2000 SP4 and XP SP2 workstation
running the iPrint client have two Microsoft hotfixes applied. Applying
these hotfixes is a prerequisite to contacting Novell Technical Services
with any iPrint client problem.
>>>>>>>>>>>>

Furthermore, Novell finally realized that it would actually be a good idea
to mention these fixes in the readme files for iPrint updates so that more
people know about it.

Re: KB884897 & KB893225 with iPrint 4.34 client

Does anyone know if these hotfixes will be part of XP SP3? I guess I've
not paid very close attention to this issue, because we have never
installed any of these hotfixes for iPrint clients. No one has
complained about the problems listed (though that doesn't mean they
don't exist.

Vista also had some hotfix dependencies with the iPrint client. Because
of that, our support group was squeamish about releasing iPrint to Vista
users because it is too much work to expect them the install hotfixes
before the client. We don't have control of desktops (EDU environment)
so pushing them out with Zenworks isn't an option for us. I really hope
this gets fixed with SP1 (which may likely break something else).

Presumably SP3 will contain a rollup of all post-SP2 hotfixes. But only
Microsoft knows for sure which patches will be included in SP3.

If you're really curious you may want to try posting in the Microsoft
forums to see if anyone there knows.

At the very bottom of MS KB documents look for "Keywords".
Hotfixes scheduled for XP SP3 has the word "kbwinxpsp3fix".
884897 has this keyword, 893225 not:

Yes they both are included.

Yes, both these patches are both included in Windows XP SP3.

This article lists all the patches included in SP3, and both KB#s are on the list.
