Mac OSX 10.7 Client - When?

Hi All!

Anyone have any idea of whether and when there will be an iPrint client for the recently released OSX 10.7 (Lion)? If there is a beta or even alpha version we would be happy to help test it ;-). Since we are a University it is very important to us to have good printing support for Mac OS X as well as Win XP/7 and Linux (any current distro eg openSUSE 11.4, ubuntu 11.04, etc.).

Thanks,

Ron

PS I did do a search and found only v5.00 from Oct 2009.

Has it even been released yet? The Apple website it's coming later
this month.

http://www.apple.com/macosx/

Regardless, if you have users with 10.7, have you tried to install the
iPrint client? What doesn't work?

Whilst Mac OS X Lion (10.7) is due to be released this month it has not
actually been released yet. Perhaps you are referring to the Gold Master
which has recently been released to developers?

That is the latest version of the iPrint Client for Mac OS X.

Hi There!

I work with Ron on our Mac/Novell setups and was requested to jump in on this!

Lion (10.7) hasn't been released yet, but we are doing testing with the GM to prepare for requests to upgrade from our users. Currently V5.00 of the iPrint client will install and show up on the top menu bar, but will not install printers. If I try to use the command line to install it fails with:

Group Info: CUPS-IPP
Error Code: 1282 (0x502)
Error Msg: iPrint Printer - The printer is currently unavailable
Debug message: MyCupsDoFileRequest - IPP Service Unavaliable.

The printer can be installed on a standard 10.6.8 OS X installation with the iPrint v5.00 client, and Windows machines as well. Has Novell done any testing with the current client and is there any plan to release an updated client if the release of 10.7 is not compatible with iPrint?

Thank You!

On ubuntu there was a need to comment out a line in:

/etc/cups/cupsd.conf

and comment out the line that reads:

Listen /var/run/cups/cups.sock

Might the same apply to Lion? I just have a vague recollection that the line to comment out conflicted with another port and caused an issue.

Thanks Ian! I will give that a try and see if it does anything.

That does not help us with the deploying a print system on OS X 10.7 that may not need to be visited after an update from Apple. The initial question Ron had asked was if there was any development on an updated iPrint client for OS X that works with 10.7. I understand it hasn't been released yet, but the developer previews have been out for a while and hopefully Novell is working on keeping iPrint functional on new releases.

Thanx!

Bump...!

Mac OS X Lion has hit our campus. Fac/Staff are upgrading for $39. Is there a supported iPrint client?

I think Novell needs to hire at least one Apple Developer. We also have 700 Macs upgrading to Lion at our campus and we're, unfortunately, running iPrint.

We're coming up on two years without a single update...whereas Windows 7 needs close to monthly patching apparently...

If you are on the OES 11 beta, the new client is included in there.

If you're not, please e-mail probello at novell dot com with subject
"Lion iPrint client" and she'll e-mail a copy to test.

The client should be released publicly soon.

You can use a MS windows for that... Just isolate the .ppd from the Lion and upload through iManager from a MS Windows

If your Mac fail install with filter error you need to install dricver pack on Lion i.e. HP driver pack.. Does this make sense? 🙂

I also got the Error Msg: iPrint Printer - The printer is currently unavailable... odd part is, that every thing works fine, when my Lion is hooked up on a 1Gbit switch, but fails when i'm using WiFi and 100Mbit connection... And this is'nt a joke 😕
