Microsoft update KB912812

I'm suddenly unable to install iPrint printers. After clicking on the printer icon, IE produces this error:

Line: 44
Char: 4
Error: Object doesn't support this property or method
Code: 0
URL: http://serverip:631/login/ippdocs./isinstie.htm

This is very close to TID 10100923 which points out an MS IE patch as the cause. I tracked the problem down to update KB912812 for Win XP which I just released to my workstations last week. Uninstalling the patch corrects the problem.

My iPrint servers are Netware 6.0 sp3. The path and files that need to be edited according to the TID are not present on my servers. I'm using Tomcat33. I tried searching for the file contents listed in the TID - no luck. I can keep the update from installing, or uninsall as needed, but I think it's safe to assmume the next IE patch will repeat. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,
Craig Roberts

Re: Microsoft update KB912812

The problem documented in the TID refers to iManager, and therefore, some
pages related to iManager needed to be changed. However your problem is
the iPrint web pages and some iPrint page is at fault. However the error
message already seems to give you the answer where to look:

>url: http://serverip:631/login/ippdocs./isinstie.htm

So it looks like the error is in the file isinstie.htm which can be found
in the login\ippdocs directory on the SYS volume.
BTW I would strongly recommend you to SP5. That is the last support pack
for NetWare 6.0 and it also contains new HTML files for iPrint. For
instance in my version of isinstie.htm I can't see a problem in the source
code.
If you decide to install SP5, then you should also install the following
patch:
http://support.novell.com/cgi-bin/search/searchtid.cgi?/2971623.htm

Re: Microsoft update KB912812

Hi,

we have the same problem and the same NetwareVersion 6.0SP3.
Soon we migrate to NW6.5.
But in the meantime, is it possible to change something in the
ippdocs/isinstie.htm for a workaround?
Or any other ideas?

Thanks for help
Rolf

I don't know what is in the SP3 version of the file. I only have the SP5
version accessible right here and it looks OK. As such, I would recommend
installing SP5 as it might fix the issue and will typically also be a
recommendaed starting point for an upograde to Nw 6.5.

Re: Microsoft update KB912812

Thanks Marcel,

looking for TID 10100923, only problem descrition for NW6.5....
With NW6.0SP3 you have to edit following two files:
sys:login\ippdocs
-> ctrlie.HTM
-> isinstie.HTM

Remove the quotation mark at he end of the line, described in above TID.

(I know its better to install SP5..., but soon we change to 6.5SP5)

Re: Microsoft update KB912812

Installed SP5 which cleared the error referencing isinstie.htm (maybe I'm blind, but I don't see the equivalent line to edit in that file). After SP5 the error referencing ctrlie.htm appeared. Removed the rogue quote and all is well now.

Thanks.

Re: Microsoft update KB912812

For Information only:

NW6.0 SP3 :

Uploading a new Printer-driver with the broker, also shows ERROR
"Line 125, character 7, ...eMFrame/webacc"

There is also an invalid quote mark at the end of CLASSID definition that
must be removed:
To solve, remove invalid quotmarks in following two files:
sys:\webapps\eMFrame\WEB-INF\classes\templates\browser\ndps\RessourceDriversPage.htt
sys:\webapps\eMFrame\WEB-INF\classes\templates\simple\ndps\RessourceDriversPage.htt

Uploading now works :-))
