NDPS Vista Client

Does anyone know if there are plans to add NDPS support to the Vista
Client before it becomes a full production client? We are a NW 6.5 shop
who is just now finally killing Queue based printing in favor of NDPS ...
we do not currently have the user training nor the infastructure to go
full on iPrinting at the moment. Preasure from the top is pushing a Vista
rollout sooner than I would like. No NDPS printing support is an absolute
show stopper and may force management to look at ending our
Novell/Microsoft blended network in favor of an all MS One ... YIPES!

The only official solution from Novell will be to use iPrint. In the
meantime, there's a third-party solution for using NDPS with Vista:

Re: NDPS Vista Client

I wouldn't really sweat the change to iPrint. It really isn't that different from NDPS. Installation and removal are quicker and easier, and it's so simple even a user can install a printer! You can have a user install a printer by just emailing them the link to it and clicking.

If that's truly what's at stake, then I'd definitely move on getting support staff up to speed on iPrint.

Just my $0.02

Re: NDPS Vista Client

I would echo the statement that iPrint is that that different from NDPS.
I was leary of the move as well but have found it quite easy to migrate to
iPrint and once in place quite similar to NDPS for administration and the
like.

The ability to 'pre-configure' printer drivers and associate them with the
printers is quite handy.
If you are a large shop the ability to easily create a map of printer
location is a slick way to make printer identification easy.

I wouldn't sweat the iprint client, it's small and can be configured to
install quietly.

It was an easy transition for us

You have responded to a 1+ year old thread. If you have an issue I
suggest you start a new thread.

I believe that A.N.D Technologies has a a Vista client.

If you want to print to NetWare queues and NDPS printers from Vista try the free NWPrintClient for Vista available from A.N.D. Technologies. See Free software from A.N.D. Technologies - NWPrintClient

Re: NDPS Vista Client

You are replying to a thread that is one and a half year old, and you are just repeating the solution that was posted in the very first reply in this thread. This doesn't sound very useful to me.

Re: NDPS Vista Client

Neither solution seems right for us. The AND option seems to require too much config from the users (no automatic deployment), and the iPrint option seems to remember the credential from the previous users, not acceptable in school labs, and if it doesn't, that mean requiring additionnal login to be able to print.

The current inclusion of NDPS in the client like XP is the ideal for us. Until iPrint can use the credential from the Novell client, it won't be useful here.

In theory, the iPrint is supposed to use the credentials from the client.
Now I have no practical exeriance if and how well this works on Vista. But
have you used the latest iPrint client to test this? E.g. version 530 of
the iPrint client.

Yes, the latest iPrint client (version 5.30) does use the credentials
from Novell Client, on Vista. You can try using that.
