Printer Error notification to sysadmin

Netware 6.5 sp4 server with iPrint installed/configured to provide NDPS
printers to internal network users. Is it possible to configure iPrint, or
Netware itself, so that when a specific NDPS printer runs into an error
condition (eg. media unit empty) a message is e-mailed to the sysadmin or
his backup? I don't want to receive messages whenever any of the printers
runs into a problem; only one or two specific units.

Your print server may be able to do this. Easy to do there if that is
the case.

What make/model printer(s) are you dealing with that you want to be
notified about?

Re: Printer Error notification to sysadmin

The "problem" unit is a four roll, Ricoh 480W large format plotter. Printing
to the device is done through a computer running a RIP called PlotBase. I
use LPR to send jobs through NDPS to the RIP.

Right now, when the plotter runs out of paper it simply pops up a message on
the RIP computer screen saying "Please change roll x". Information about
this "error" state gets back to the NDPS Printer Manager, because when I
look at the Printer Agent for this device it reports that a sub-unit is
empty. The display of the computer running the RIP is kept locked, so it's
not obvious to users of the plotter that the RIP is hung waiting for a roll
to be changed.

I don't think Plotbase (the RIP software) supports SMTP error messages, so I
wanted to try setting it up in Netware.

Re: Printer Error notification to sysadmin

Yeah, sounds like you can't do this.
