Problems with iprint after W2K Security Rollup 1

Hi!

We experienced problems with iprint, esp. with icapture after installing
the W2K Security Rollup pack 1 (KB891861). When i capture lpt3 to an
iprint printer and install a local printer pointing to lpt3 i get an
error after reboot, that the lpt3 isn´t availible. When i recapture
after the reboot this local printer to lpt2, everything is fine. But
after a reboot the error occurs with lpt2. After uninstalling Rollup1,
the problem went away.

Any thoughts?

Re: Problems with iprint after W2K Security Rollup 1

I had this issue too. After changing the iprint.ini file to reflect the
setting AllowUserPrinters = 3 and re-installing everything was fast. I think
version 4.11 or 4.12 is required for this setting.

Re: Problems with iprint after W2K Security Rollup 1

Hi!

Hmm, that didn´t work for me. I did the following:
I uninstalled the iprint client. After that i changed the iprint.ini on
my iprint server to the setting you send to me. After that i reinstalled
the iprint client from that server, installed the printer again and did
the captureing. i got the error again ("There was an error found when
printing the document "TEst Page" to lpt2:. Do you want to retry or
cancel".

Did i get something wrong?

Re: Problems with iprint after W2K Security Rollup 1

Are you using the v4.12 client? If not, please try it since it has some
icapture fixes in it.

Re: Problems with iprint after W2K Security Rollup 1

Is there a specific reason to capture/install over the top of a existing
lpt port that is already captured? Or is the issue that it allowed you to
capture/install over-the-top of an existing capture?

Re: Problems with iprint after W2K Security Rollup 1

Hi!

The lpt port isn´t already captured. I capture the port through the
iprint client gui to an iprint printer. I install a W2k printer object
on the WS pointing to trhe lpt3 device. We have to do this, cause we
have an W2K Application which can´t handle long printernames (esp.
longer that i think 16 chars).

cheers,
Holger

Re: Problems with iprint after W2K Security Rollup 1

I am confused. So you iCapture to LPT3?? (you didn't say which lpt you
icapture too. just assuming??). Then install windows printer to LPT3 as
well. It would seem that they are "clobbering" each other... did you say
this use to work???

Re: Problems with iprint after W2K Security Rollup 1

Hi!

Sorry for the delay 🙂

We install a "windows" printer-object (no "real" printer) on a ws
pointing to lpt3 (for example, an lpt port, that isn´t physically
there). And we use icapture to connect this lpt3: port to an iprint
printer. Result is: When I printing to the local printer object, which
is connected to lpt3 which is connected to an existing iprint printer,
the documents were printed on that iprint printer. We need this cause
our iprint object names are too long for a specific Win application. The
local printername can be less than 16 chars for example.

Cheers,
Holger
