Push NDPS printers with Zenworks

Hi,

I'm just getting into Novell Administration at the place where I work and was wondering how to go about pushing out NDPS based on the workstation and not the user. In Imanager if I use the RPM configuration and select to install a printer to a specific user it works perfectly. If I try to do that same with workstations it does not work.

What is the best way to get the printers to install automatically on the workstations?

**I do not want the users to have to choose the printers or have printers assigned by username either as it will not work out in this school environment**

Re: Push NDPS printers with Zenworks

Well, in ZENwors, you have pritner policies that you can assign to users
or workstations. However what ZENworks version and what server OS and
version are you using?

Re: Push NDPS printers with Zenworks

Well I am pretty that ZenWorks 4.x-7.x will not allow you to push NDPS
printers to Windows 2k/XP. There is the NT printer policy, but it
doesn't work (or maybe just not supported) on newer versions of
windows.

You'd have to use iPrint policies (not NDPS) to push out printers on a
per-workstation basis with newer versions of ZenWorks/Windows.

Since we haven't quite yet moved to iPrint-based printing, we have
devised a solution using delivered applications that are associated to
workstations. These apps use the PRINTUI.DLL functionality to push out
printers and device settings. It's not the most ideal situation, but
works for now for us.

Re: Push NDPS printers with Zenworks

Well, in theory, it should be possible to push out NDPS pritners through
legacy policies. However given you are using NetWare 6.5, it might be
better to push out your printers as iPrint printers as that is the
officially supported way to do it with ZEN 6.5.

It is not supported - but it works, we use NT printer policy with Zen7
and XP workstations.
