Windows XP SP2 and iPrint

I have a Netware 6.0 SP5 server that runs the iPrint. I have many
computers that are running Windows XP SP2 with Novell clients on them.
All of these computer have the iPrint client on them. Whenever I want to
print a document or an email, when I go to file and click print, it
takes 30seconds to 1 minute before the printers come up. Is this a known
issue and how is it fixed? Thanks

Re: Windows XP SP2 and iPrint

Yes, this is a known issue. We had the same problem. The fix was to
back-rev the Windows printing subsystem and apply Novell Client 4.91.
After doing both of these the issue was resolved. I can't recall
exactly what the fix number is for the windows software, but you can
find it on Microsoft's support site. Microsoft, in their infinite
wisdom, changed the printing subsystem in sp2.

Re: Windows XP SP2 and iPrint

Hi
Yes, thats a known bug in XP SP2.
Edit the iprint.ini file on your server to use a Shortname for the
printer. I.e. do not use the DEFAULT.
The iprint.ini is pretty much self explaining.

Printers on the workstations need to be reinstalled after the change
was made.

Re: Windows XP SP2 and iPrint

We were having the same problem. Users were in IE and opened a PDF file.
When they clicked print it took up to one minute to bring up the print
dialog.

We edited the iprint.ini file on our iPrint server and changed to setting
to the name of the server. Then we reinstalled the printers on the
workstations and now it only takes seconds to print.

Re: Windows XP SP2 and iPrint

I followed workaround 2 & 3 on TID 10095247 and I'm still experiencing
delays with the print dialog. The issue is mainly on Internet
Explorer, doesn't seem to be on FireFox.

Re: Windows XP SP2 and iPrint

Do you have tried to find this fix? I cannot find it... Not even Microsoft
can help me.

Re: Windows XP SP2 and iPrint

I know, this is a known problem with Microsoft. No idea why they deny
to have a fix.
See the TID for some updates notes on how to get the patch.
