capture L=2 Q/P =?? on NW6.5

Coming from NW41, where I do this...
IF MEMBER OF "P-L2-ZONEPrinter" THEN
CAPTURE L=2 Q=ZONEQ NB NFF
END

I have NW65
I want to ..
1. Push the windows drivers to the desktop (RPM?)
2. Capture lptx to a print queue or printer with NB NFF
3. Execute capture commands based on group membership
4. Make it occur during login process (incl. using loginscript)
5. Do not use 3rd party TSRs running on each workstation.

As far as I can tell, my choices are NDPS, legacy queues/printers, or
iPrint.

What I can do now.
1. Setup NDPS and push a windows driver to a workstation, based on
container membership.
When I issue iCapture command, I get error...
C:\>ICAPTURE L=2 P=P-TEST-NDPS.JS
Printer 'P-TEST-NDPS.JS' is not an
installed iPrint printer on this
workstation.

How do I get printers on worksations and capture lpt ports?

thanks,
Craig

Re: capture L=2 Q/P =?? on NW6.5

You can run NDPS on the backend, have it service your traditional queues,
and run capture just as you are now. If you want to use iPrint icapture,
then you have to install iPrint printers on the workstations then run
iCapture. This is basically what the message is telling you. iCapture is
different than capture...

Currently with NDPS, you can push printer using RPM, this is a feature that
will be coming out for iPrint in the future...

In order to use iPrint, you need to install the iPrint client. This might
go against your requirement #5...

Re: capture L=2 Q/P =?? on NW6.5

I've got the broker, manager, and printer agent working and RPM pushing to
the desktop on login. I did this all via NWadmin adn NDPS.

Now, I just can't figure out how to capture 1) the printer ogject ot lpt
port or 2) a print queue to a port.

i tried to capture an lpt to a printer...

C:\>capture l=2 p=p-agent

CAPTURE-4.15-505: There is not
a default queue assigned to printer
p-agent. Use PCONSOLE or the
NetWare Administrator utility to assign
a default queue to this printer.

1. Where is pconsole?
2. How do i use NWadminto associate a print queue with a printer?

I know how to do this in nw41, butI just can't find it in nw6.5.
Thanks for your help

Re: capture L=2 Q/P =?? on NW6.5

You can't capture a NDPS PA directly, but you can capture a queue that is
connected to a PA.
In NWadmin you can connect a queue in the Spooling Configuration button in
the PA details.

Re: capture L=2 Q/P =?? on NW6.5

Thanks for the tip.

I can't find the Spooling Configuration button. Where exactly is it?
I've looked everywhere I can think of. I've created new printer agents,
but can't find that anywhere.

For clarification, when you refer to a PA, you are referring to an object
created by NWadmin called NDPS Printer
Configure with "Create a New Printer Agent" selected
specify the current print manager.
Novell Printer Gateway (SNMP)

I've tested Dosprint and I might end up using this if I can't get
capturing to work.

With DOSprint, it appears as if the GUI must be running in order for the
DOS version to work, is this true? When the GUI is not running and I try
to capture using DOSprint syntax, I get message that DOSprint is not
running.

Thanks for your help.

On the Printer Control tab - Jobs - Spooling configuration - Service jobs
from Netware queues

Dosprint runs as a service so it should be running when the login screen
appears.
Try using DosprintUI.

The old capture utility can only capture to old style print queues. While
Novell does not provide a native capture utility for NDPSm, there is the
following third party tool that brings capture functionality to NDPS:

Re: capture L=2 Q/P =?? on NW6.5

Perfect.

Now I can push windows drives with rpm and capture with dos to the print
queue (L=2 Q=nnnn)

Thanks for your help.
