iPrint 506D0032 - invalid identifier error

We are running iPrint 6.05 on a SLES 11 SP3 / OES 11 SP2 server. The iPrint Manager is 3.0.2.

We are having intermittent problems where some people can print to an iPrint printer but others can't. Uninstalling the printer then re-installing as well as uninstalling the iPrint client and reinstalling doesn't seem to help the affected users. When I look in the ndpsmmon.log log file on the server, I see the error "506D0032 - invalid identifier" and "Error: 506D000C - object not found" multiple times. We only have 48 printers so we shouldn't be stressing the iPrint server.

Other people printing to the same printer have no problem. Also, the problem users can print to other iPrint printers with no problem. It is only some printers that some users can't print to. If we set up direct IP printing to the printer for the problem users, then printing works without fail.

What do these errors mean? What other logs can I look at to troubleshoot the problem?

Thanks,

Dan

This is a long shot because it is for an older version of iPrint, but
may be worth checking out.
https://www.novell.com/support/kb/doc.php?id=3508916
It references this:
https://www.novell.com/support/kb/doc.php?id=3245149
I would be curious as to whether the workarounds in this TID get
printing going again for the affected users. Might provide a clue as
to what is going on.

Re: iPrint 506D0032 - invalid identifier error

Ken, I looked at those TIDs previously and I don't think that is the problem. If the problem was what is mentioned in TID 3245149, then I would expect that no one would be able to print. In this case, we have the situation where one person can't print to printer A but others can while that person can print to printers B and C.

Are there iPrint logs on the client that will tell me something? What about on the server? I am not sure where to look for the logs.

iPrint server log files:
https://www.novell.com/documentation/oes11/iprint_lx/data/bscvud8.html
I'm not aware of any client side log files. I moved my iprint over
from OES to the iPrint Appliance, so I don't have anything handy to
look at here. I take it you've compared everything between working
and non-working computers?

This might also give you some clues:

Re: iPrint 506D0032 - invalid identifier error

I'll have to check the health monitor out more thoroughly. I am mostly going on reports from another tech but I think it is time for me to look at the situation myself.

Thanks for your help. I may be back. <G>

You're welcome
Although I'm not sure I've helped much. Maybe there is a key item the
other tech is missing that you will spot when you get eyes on the
situation yourself. Let us know how you make out and if I can find
anything more helpful, I'll let you know.
