iPrint Client 5.96 very slow

Hello,

It appears that the iPrint Client 5.96 is very slow.

In the control panel, it takes much longer to get the properties of an iPrint printer, than a local TCP/IP printer (same physical printer with same driver(HP UPD)).

When you ask for printing documents (2 documents tested : 1 very small text and 1 PDF 78 pages about 1.1MB), it takes about :
- 25-35 seconds before showing the print window (windows checks every printer status : only 1 iPrinter printer and 1 local TCP/IP printer).
- 0-15 seconds to show the progress bar window.
- 30-75 seconds before the progress bar starts.
- 1-3 seconds to fulfill the progress bar.

If I remove the iPrint printer, and use the local TCP/IP printer, it prints right away.

I tried the TID 7008411 : from 9 to 3 seconds : not better.

It does not seems to be an anti-virus or firewall issue on the client or on the server (OES11SP2 up to date).

Is somebody has an idea, please share ...

Find attached a WireShark print screen when asking for properties of an iPrint printer.

Maybe TID7014730 ?

That being said, I find it interesting that the latest iPrint client that is listed on http://download.novell.com/patch/finder/ is 5.92.

I am receiving numerous reports from users about iPrint problems. The problem seems to be with Lexmark MX410de printers - we have a couple of dozen of these. Submitted print jobs sometimes come out of printer after 10 minutes, sometimes only after the *next* job is printed the previous document appears together with the next... Sometimes several days pass with no problems. I've been unable to find any related error messages on workstation on server (Netware 6.5 SP8 with latest iPrint patch iprntnw65sp8f).

As it seems the problems started after updating iPrint client to 5.94 and did not disappear with 5.96, I am now considering downgrading to 5.92.

Re: iPrint Client 5.96 very slow

The latest iPrint client for Windows 7 rolled out on May 21th 2014, release 5.96 (under Products, not Patches).

TID7014730 applies, I reverted back to HP UPD 5.6.5 since changing ShorInstallName is very annoying.

Thanks for your reply.

latest iprint client has been released as rpm update for oes11sp1 and
sp2. iprint client version 5.98

July 2014 OES11 SP1 Hot Patch for iPrint Client (Open Enterprise
Server 11.1 x86-64)
http://download.novell.com/Download?buildid=ZJO5miKfWjQ~

July 2014 OES11 SP2 Hot Patch for iPrint Client (Open Enterprise
Server 11.2 (OES 11 SP2) x86-64)
http://download.novell.com/Download?buildid=YP9TTxu7rI8~

HP has fixed the issue with the shortname install feature and the slow
properties page update and it should be available in the next UPD
release. If memory does not fails me, hp releases each 6 month so it
should be coming around august.

Hi, I just installed HP UPD 5.9 from ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/UPD
with iPrint 5.98 on Windows 7 x64 machine and the Problem with the slow
Properties page is not fixed. I clicking the Propteries page I get errors in the system event log:
ID 10009 - DistributedCOM
DCOM was unable to communicate with the computer "iprint" using any of the configured protocols.

Anyone else seeing this?

The only workaround is described in TID 7014730

Please define slow and where do you see the slowness. I do not know the
exact fix from HP but i've downloaded the driver, 5.9 pcl6 and installed
it. I do use as well the shortname feature and i did not see any
slowness when viewing printer properties nor the system log file shows
any error. Can you verify that this printer, has indeed, the 5.9 version?

- I see the slowness of going to "Devices and Printers" right click on the printer and click "Printer Properties",
this Properties Dialog takes about 35 seconds to open.

- The Version is indeed "HP Universal Printing PS (v5.9.0)"

But I found something interresting:
I add all my printers with "iprntcmd -a http://server/ipp/printer".
If I install the printer via Internet Explorer over "http://server/ipp" there
is no delay in Opening the Properties of the printer.

Which way did you install your printer?

Could you delete the printer and add it again with iprntcmd to see if you get the same error?

using /ipp:

4 secs

using iprntcmd:

12 secs

So it is a small delay using iprntcmd but not so long as you're reporting
