iPrint Privacy Error

We have been seeing, at random times, multiple error messages appearing on Windows 7, Windows 10 and Chromebooks a security alert (see attachment) from iPrint stating "Privacy Error". We are currently running iPrint Appliance Version: 2.1.0.66-HP.70. When the error messages appear, sometimes as many as 20 of them, I will close them out until I reach the last one. Then, on the last message, I will click on the link "See Details" and a pop-up window appears. Within the new window, I will click on the "Advance" window and grant access to our iPrint server. Once I have done that, then I can return to the item and send the print job once again.

Can anyone explain why we are receiving these security alerts on multiple OS devices and so randomly? Thanks in advance for any assistance!

1, using ssl printers?
2. using third party certificates?

This condition exists when there is a mismatch on the certificate CN
name from the Appliance

i assume your using iprint client 6.06

Re: iPrint Privacy Error

Thank you for responding Mysterious!

I do not have any of the printers established with SSL certificates or requiring authentication for printing via the Client Support tab within NPS. I have pushed out 6.06 to all devices with the exception of the Chromebooks. We are using the Micro Focus client 1.0.1 on the Chromebooks. I will add that Chrome does display, in red, Not Secure and has a red slash through https in the URL bar. This only appears when I go to the "Admin" or "NPS" sites. If I am looking to install a printer the address does not have https in the URL. Does that answer your questions?

not really. When do you get this message? what action triggers this message?
And on the last screen, when you accept it, i'm sure it is asking for
the accept the certificate.
It is due to the certificate name mismatch. Probably your certificate CN
is different than your iprint manager dnd name, hence you have to accept
it manually.

When you access the /ipp page to install a printer, it is accessible via
htttp or https, just depends what your type on the browser.

Goggle the error: your connection is not private and you'll see it is
due to certificate name mismatch

Re: iPrint Privacy Error

Mysterious,

The messages appear randomly. There is not real trigger that I am finding. I have walked in to start working and they are being displayed. Whereas a teacher may turn around and they are being displayed on their device. I have one certificate loaded in the Appliance Digital Certificates "Web Application Certificates" section as shown in the attached image. The CN name displayed is correct. Is there a certain location for a file I need to double check for a different CN or dnd name?

it is strange this certificates shows expiration date 2021 but the
appliance default certificate is only valid for 2 years. So you've
imported a third party certificate or the time on the appliance may be wrong

If not, you may need to contact support and let them make a remote
session to the machine to see the issue. difficult to troubleshot with
no vision of the error.

Re: iPrint Privacy Error

I appreciate your assistance. The date/time on the server is correct. The 2021 end date self-assigned cert was created by Novell support back in September 2016. I will contact support and post another response on here with the resolution they provided.

no problem, still looks like a certificate issue, maybe refreshing then
will do the trick.

Re: iPrint Privacy Error

I could be mistaken but I believe this error is when you have a self-signed certificate and it can't verify the CA. Here is a video that explains how to update the certificates on iPrint - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0AZp-dwEbT4
