iPrint and Office files

Running latest iPrint, 4.9 SP2 client, Windows XP SP2, Office 2003 SP1
from a NetWare 6.5 SP2 server.

When iPrint printers are selected as the default printer, opening and
saving Word and Execl files is VERY slow. Setting the default to a
local printer restores the speed to normal.

We have this problem on about half of our PC's with the above configuration.

Any ideas, or anyone see anything similiar?

Thanks.

Thanks for pointing this out. But (of course there's a but) all
printers that she has installed are on the same network, connected
through the same server. The TID makes it sound like it's fixed in 4.83
SP3, but it's certainly still there in 4.9 SP2. Or am I not reading it
right?

Jason,
same problem here, you can take a look at the thread "Printer delayed"
(same newsgroup) there is possible a solution (if your printername is to
longer then 31 chars), maybe this helps you, if not then welcom to club of
"ipp/slowness with winxpsp2" hopefully someone will help us.

Re: iPrint and Office files

It was the only one I could think of <g>, can you ping the server that
is actually the NDPS stuff that sits behind iPrint ?. That's what the
client is trying to contact after all ?

Yep. Our main server does NDPS, iPrint, file serving, authentication
and Groupwise. Can ping it just fine.

Thanks for your help!

Has anyone tried an older version of the client, to see if it fixes it?

Re: iPrint and Office files

What puzzles me is that you said you only get the problem on half the
PCs ?, so some work fine irrespective of the default printer

Re: iPrint and Office files

We've done some furthur testing and appears others are having the
problem as well. They just didn't notice it until I changed their
default to a non-NDPS/iPrint printer.

I've tried this with the same results. Bad Name Cache is on by default
on our installations.

Re: iPrint and Office files

Ah well, worth a try. I still use standard NDPs printers, and haven't
seen the problem. So if you set up a standard NDPS printer and set that
as the default, does normal service resume ?

Cheers Dave

Yes, using standard NDPS the problem goes away.

Re: iPrint and Office files

There's a couple of iPrint updates that may be worth trying. No TIDs I
can find on the specific problem, but if the updates don't help, I'll
see what I can find out
