iPrint can't ping printer off of VLAN

This happens intermittently. When we replace a printer we use the same IP address. Occasionally the address only pings for a short time and then can only be pinged on the same VLAN. When we put a laptop on with the same IP address it can be pinged from any where on the network. We plug the printer back in and it can only be pinged on the local VLAN again. It stays this way for roughly 2 -3 hours and then it typically works after restarting the printer. It doesn't seem to matter what type of printer network card it is (Xerox, HP, Lexmark etc.). We are using Novell gateways exclusively.

Any similar experiences?

Re: iPrint can't ping printer off of VLAN

This sounds to me like a routing issue and not really related to iPrint.
How is routing done between your vlans? Do your printers have the correct netmask and default gateway set?
