iprint prompts for credentials but user has no secure printers installed

Occasionally users are prompted for their username & password when
attempting to print to an iPrint printer. Secure iPrint is NOT enabled on
any of the users installed printers. If the user cancels the prompt the
document fails. If they try entering their credentials they are not
accepted an the window just pops back up. Generally a complete shutdown/
restart takes care of the issue. All of our users are running WinXP. We
have the 4.26 iPrint client installed. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Re: iprint prompts for credentials but user has no secure printersinstalled

What backend are you printing to?? (NW 5.1, 6.5, Linux??) A prompt for authentication happens when the iprint client gets a 401 response back from the server. In this case, it goes through its login dialog to obtain credentials.. It is funny that even with credentials provided, it still fails. You could try turning the client logging on to see if that gives any additional information as to what is initiating the client to think it needs to authenticate... Look at TID 10064594. This info is still applicable for the 4.26 client..

Re: iprint prompts for credentials but user has no secure printers installed

We too are experiencing this issue. It seems to have started after we
applied sp6 and the iprint patch sp6f. What we have seen is that if a
user tries to delete a print job that is not theirs, then every time they
try to print they are asked to login to iprint. Usually logging out of
the machine and back in fixes the issue. However, this is really
annoying. I am going to see if sp6g fixes the issue.

NetWare 6.5 SP6. iPrint is patched to sp6f. Please let me know if sp6g
corrects the issue. Thank you.

I highly doubt it because the main change in the "g" update is the gateway
which does nto involve communication with the client. In any case, how
should we know if a patch fixes your problem if you haven't yet provided
the debugging information that was asked for and we still don't know what
the underlying reason for your problem might be. So please follow
iprintrox' suggestion and enable client logging:

One the problem occurs again, post the resulting log here.

Re: iprint prompts for credentials but user has no secure printers installed

Hi,

I am having the same issue i think on our network.

We have two NW65 SP6 servers running our i-print

Both are on patch "G"

I have tried the latest client on the Novell download, 4.30?

This has not helped so far.

Also on a related note, should a printer operator not be able to delete a
user’s job? This is in a help desk environment.

We also run pcounter so often users with no credit have paused jobs that
sit around for ages!

Any help appreciated!

Dan

Re: iprint prompts for credentials but user has no secure printers installed

I am too experiencing this behavior. Our server is NW6.5 sp6 with the iprint
G patch and it occurs randomly on several workstations and the users
uniqueID is correct. I've tried updating the iprint client to v.4.32 and
the problem continues. We've used this config for months and it started
happening with no apparent reason.
Does anyone else have any clues?
Thanks.

Re: iprint prompts for credentials but user has no secure printers installed

Can someone post an ipptrace showing this happening?

1) iprntcfg TRACE
2) net stop spooler + shutdown all browser sessions
3) net start spooler
4) run whatever it is that fails
5) net stop spooler
6) post c:ndpsipptrace.txt
