pc's locking up with iprint

Hi
We have rolled out iPrint client v04.06.00 to 45 NetWare 6.5 SP2 servers.
We have had this problem randomly at about 10 or 15 of the server
locations so far, and not sure why it is happening.
A user will call because they have tried to print to an iPrint printer.
The print job comes out of the printer but the app they printed from has
the printer box on the screen and the app is stuck. You have to end task
the app. If they try to print again, same thing. We have been
uninstalling the iPrint client and reinstalling it. This seems to fix the
problem but is very time consuming.

Does anyone have any ideas why this would be happening?

Thanks

Are you on XP/SP2 workstations? Do you have Microsoft Hotfix KB 893225
installed. Is this is a problem with Excel or do you have multiple apps
this is happening on?

pc's locking up with iprint

Hi
We are XP SP1 workstations. It happens in Word, Outlook, Internet
Explorer, and another non-Microsoft app.

Re: pc's locking up with iprint

Does it happen when you go File - Print, but not when you just click on the print icon? Something we had to do to make it not hang was to set AllowUserPrinters = 3 and set the ShortInstallName = (something - we just used iPrint) in the iprint.ini file on the server, then delete the user's printers and reinstall. That fixed it for us!

Re: pc's locking up with iprint

I am not sure - we haven't asked the users if they clicked the print icon
or File, Print before the pc locked up. What is the "3D 3" for? I
thought that AllowUserPrinters=3 meant that the printers are created for
that user only, not any user on the workstation and this was a bad thing
going forward with XP SP2. Our settings are currently AllowUserPrinters=1
and ShortInstallName=ourcompanyname. Help ??

Have you tried the v4.16 iPrint client that is available on the support
site?

Is there a known issue with v4.06 and app lockup uninstall/reinstalls?

I have not tried 4.16 yet. we are having another MAJOR issue with our HP
LJ 1300 printers. no Novell support person has responded to the several
posts on the forum that are out there (from various people). I actually
have one branch that has had no 1300 problems or app lockups and they are
still on v03.09.00. The rest of our 45+ branches are on v04.06.00 and at
this point I am considering downgrading versus upgrading the client
because other people on the forums with the 1300 problem have tried 4.16
and it didn't fix the problem.

Any reason why you are not using XP/SP2 on your workstations. I am not
aware of any apps "locking up" when printing. Do you have all of the
office updates from Microsoft? I have made a change for Excel in the
iPrint v4.20 client that will ship here shortly. The fix was for some
Excel pages not printing out.

We have other critical apps that won't run on XP SP2, and 100+ other apps
we need to test on SP2 before rolling it out.

We are still using Office 97 SR2. We hope to start the upgrade to Office
2007 this year. It isn't only Office apps that lock up. Our main Teller
application also has the problem. They print, end task, print, end task
until they can call and we uninstall/reinstall the iPrint client for them.
