spaces in the printer name
This could be NDS issue, but I have been asked if we could eliminate
spaces in the ndps printer name i.e "NDPS.OU.O on TREE_ORG". I understand
with printing some applications, b'se there is are spaces in the printer
name, they cannot get print outs. Or if there is a trick around for
this. Nw6.5sp6

What applications? We ran NDPS for years with spaces in names with no
issue. The only issue was when we had an ' in the name but it only
became an issue when we used auditing.

Hi
LDAP is used for iprint and ldap doesn't know spaces and underscores.
I.e. if LDAP sees a space it is replaced with underscore. So you get in
trouble if using underscores.
Also iprint used URL's to print and url's with spaces are always a
troublemaker.

Lotus Notes client is one I know. It cuts printer names at the first
occurence of a space in it.

Hello, right now we do not use iprint for the clients, we only use ndps
installed when installing novell client. Does it have the same issue ?

What about renaming the printer on the client side? So the printer
object has a name with spaces but the client printer has a shorter name
with no spaces. Also another option could be to use an alias. I have
tested NDPS with aliases briefly and it seamed to work well.

This is what the IT dep. sent me:
We've problem with the direct printing within the Web Transformation
Project of ONE (application name). The "orarp" executable is already
been used to manage printing. This executable brings up a dialog box when
called and sends the output to printer. As is our network environment
this exe file could not solve - recognize neither the name of printers
nor the IP numbers of them. Besides if we define the printer in the
network with the IP number as name then it's possible to have it print.
From this point of view, if there is a way to get the IP number or the
full name of the printers , this will make possible to print with "orarp".
