vastorage fills up, printing stops

Hi,

Using v3.2 integrated with PaperCut. This directory : /vastorage/iprint/var/opt/novell/iprintmobile/jobs fills up over time with files of type pdf and prn. I have been unable to find any concept in iPrint of removing old print jobs. Is this the normal expected behaviour for iprint appliance? Is there a standard means of controlling this, like some setting buried in a conf file that has to be hand edited from the shell? Or am I stuck having to periodically shell into the server and manually delete old jobs?

Cheers,

Ron

Re: vastorage fills up, printing stops

Dear Ron,

Are these the mobile jobs that haven't been released at the printer by PaperCut and moved to the second queue - or something like that? Send a job and watch it move through the process.

Had the same issue. I created a script that runs daily that deletes files older than a week from that folder. That was the only solution I could find.

Thanks

Re: vastorage fills up, printing stops

Hi Tom,

Yes these are jobs, both the pdf source and the prn (rendered) files, that come from the web/quick print function. I am not sure if the jobs are stale from never being released by the end user or if they are released but just never get cleaned up by the print server. I'll have to investigate further as you suggest.

Thanks,

Ron

Re: vastorage fills up, printing stops

Hi,

Yeah, I've pretty much come to the same conclusion. For those that might be looking for the command that will accomplish the cleanup I offer this :

find /vastorage/iprint/var/opt/novell/iprintmobile/jobs/*.* -mtime +7 -execdir rm '{}' ';'

Test first with a non-destructive command :

find /vastorage/iprint/var/opt/novell/iprintmobile/jobs/*.* -mtime +7 -execdir ls '{}' ';'

The parameter '-mtime +7' tells find to select files that are more than 7 days old. So change the mtime to whatever value you feel is appropriate.

If this works the way you want/expect then you can put it into the cron system to run on a daily/weekly etc basis.

It would be a nice feature enhancement if this functionality (old job removal/cleanup) were part of the iPrint appliance.

Cheers,

Ron

Exactly what I did. If they have not released it after 7 days I think that is the end users problem.
